The Beast
Updated: Mar 2, 2021
We are so happy to announce that the “Beast”, as many of our past volunteers know our nine-seater bus, has been put to good use at Lesvos Solidarity Camp (ex-Pikpa) in Mytilene. The Beast will be used to transport children from the “Village of All Together” to local schools for their lessons!
Here is an excerpt from a UNHCR press release dated December 21st, 2016, and titled “Online Language Classes for 1,000 Asylum Seekers on Lesvos” about other good work the Beast has been up to:
“Approximately 15 asylum seekers of different ages and nationalities from Moria, Kara Tepe and alternative shelters participated in the first pilot session of the language program. Volunteer students from the University of the Aegean introduced the program to the participants, helped them with technical issues, and addressed simple linguistic questions. Starfish Foundation offered valuable assistance in the transportation of the participants to the session. By the end of the course, 1,000 refugees from Lesvos will have the chance to benefit from the online language classes.”
