Help Us This Refugee Week!
June 20 is World Refugee Day. Here at Starfish, we are asking for donations in honor of World Refugee Week so that we can continue our mission to support those seeking safety. Check out some of our projects below & make sure to tune into our social media from June 20-June 24 and meet some of the people involved in our projects.
We want to extend a huge thank you to all of our supporters! Our projects would not be possible without your help.شكرًا ! Σας ευχαριστούμε ! تشکر ! Merci! ډیره مننه ! Mahadsanid!Grazie !
Our safe house provides reliable and safe accommodation for vulnerable single women and their children. We provide them with food vouchers, clothing, transportation and assist them with appointments with
lawyers, psychologists and much more.
Open Football Community
We are thrilled to have been able to create a football league with over 70 players, most of whom are unaccompanied minors. Our team meets twice a week to practice different skills and engages in friendly matches.
Our library operates from our community hub, OpenSpace, between 09:00 & 21:00 where refugees and the local community
alike are able to borrow books. We have also just opened up a library container inside Mavrovouni camp with different activities such as movie screenings and arts & crafts.
We have created a bike workshop at OpenSpace where we provide the support to cultivate the skills of bike repair and maintenance. We also plan to offer lessons to beginners on proper bike usage, maintenance and repair. This project seeks to connect all members of our community through the sport of cycling.
OpenSpace is our community hub and the first co-working space in Lesvos. OpenSpace is a focal point for connecting the refugee and the Greek communities. It promotes social entrepreneurship and innovative ideas towards advancing social justice as well as much more. We also partner with other organizations for various projects and workshops, and host our own game night with chess lessons every Thursday.
Starfish has partnered with the group MAM Beyond Borders to introduce an initiative whose aim is to support pregnant women at term (especially needed in the case of their first pregnancy), and breastfeeding mothers and infants up to 1 year old. The initiative encourages and promotes breastfeeding and is led by a team of healthcare volunteers with previous experience in the field.
