Welcome to Starfish
Good evening, world! Starfish would like to welcome you all to our blog on our lovely new website! We hope that you like it and you can get a better picture about the work that Starfish are doing out here in Molyvos, Lesvos to give the best possible welcome to refugees arriving here in Europe.
Over the coming weeks, this blog, which will be posted weekly, will take you on a little bit of a tour about who is who in Starfish world and the different areas in which we help, namely our transit camp OXY, the harbour where we care for shipwreck victims and our bus stop in Eftalou. We shall also be taking you to explore our sandwich factory and our storage spaces to show you the vital behind the scenes work that we do every day to make sure our operation runs smoothly.
Starfish is part of a big team of NGOs and volunteer organisations that help the refugees here in Molvyos. We will be introducing to you some of the great people that we work closely with on the north of the island and explaining how their work ensures that more refugees land safely on European shores.
This blog will be the place where we keep all of our supporters updated on what’s happening on the island. We feel a responsibility to keep you informed as to where all your help and support is actually going to and, of course, to let you know all the latest Starfish and refugee related news.
Starfish would also like to take this opportunity to say a massive thank you to the tens of thousands of people who have supported us thus far. It’s really overwhelming how global the response has been to this refugee crisis. Every day we receive parcels from far-flung destinations such as India and the US, as well as closer to home in Europe. Starfish has also had volunteers from over 30 countries and counting, including some from Kyrgyzstan and New Zealand. It means so much to us that people all over the world are willing to give time, money and supplies to people in need and without your help we simply couldn’t do what we do here. So thank you!
