Growth

New beginnings at OpenBike

Our OpenBike team is growing! Let us introduce you to Masoud and Periklis, our new volunteer and project manager respectively, who are here to help put more safe bikes on the road and transfer their bike skills to the camp and Mytilene residents. We also want to THANK YOU for your support of the LittlexLittle campaign from GlobalGiving that took place from 3 to 7 April and raised $637 for new bike tires, which put us in the top 4,7% of all participating organisations.

Learning at OpenSpace

Our Seminars project was completed last week. It was launched in November 2022 as an opportunity to offer free seminars in the fields of skills building and business development for local producers and non-profit organisations, providing the chance of networking among the local actors. We would like to thank SynLesvos, HIGGS and Open Society Foundations for their cooperation and contribution to this project.

Camp update

It has been busy lately at our pop-up library. Daily, around 20 children visit our library in camp from 10-13h. We do a lot of activities together: drawing, making bracelets or origami or we dance on Macarena. We are happy to adjust to this need while continuing to promote book reading.

The amount of children has increased because some NGOs that provided recreational activities for children left camp. Also, the number of inhabitants of the camp has increased in the last months up to the almost full capacity of 2100.

OFC

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Babylon Migrants Project for their generous €500 donation to Open Football Community (OFC). With this amount, we were able to buy sports trousers, shorts and shoes which were given as prizes in the final match of a tournament held on Tuesday 28 March to all the players.
