Current positions available:

Starfish Helper: Helping out with activities in Moria Refugee Camp. The camp is located on the island of Lesvos, Greece, is home to a fluctuating population of around 5,000 refugees fleeing war, and persecution. Current projects include: Self Defence Empowerment classes for vulnerable women, NFI Distribution, development of attractive activities together with Moria Community Representatives.

OpenSpace Helper: Helping run the day to day activities of the space. It is crucial to be very organised, personable and friendly in order to support the space adequately. Event planning, administrative work and impact through awareness raising. Knowledge of Greek would be an asset. Additional current projects include: Yoga for Women, Portal by Shared Studios /Refocus Media Labs.

Social Media and Marketing Volunteer: Help create successful fundraising and awareness raising campaigns. Manage the social media account, as well as content creation. Preferred experience in Website Design/coding. Additional current projects include: NeedsHub.org

Section A Guard: Providing ID check and gate control in Section A in Moria Camp (unaccompanied minors). This is a new program and has proven to be a great success so far. It consists mostly of conversing with the unaccompanied minors in English, being a point of check in for them, interacting with the authorities and ensuring that the section is safe. We are looking for people who would be able to work from 8.30pm to midnight, all training will be provided. This vacancy needs to be filled ASAP, and can be undertaken additionally to other volunteer placements.

About You

Our ideal candidate possesses the following qualities:

  1. Motivated by Starfish’s mission is to provide practical help to vulnerable people on Lesvos, including both refugees and local people.
  2. Being highly flexible and adaptable, in line with Starfish’s ethos of filling gaps when they arise.
  3. Demonstrated experience in humanitarian action, development, or volunteer/nonprofit leadership is highly desirable.
  4. Experience working with vulnerable communities, or other relevant experience demonstrating sensitivity is highly favourable.
  5. Knowledge of basic digital platforms including Microsoft Office, Google Drive, and email, as well as the ability to rapidly uptake skills on other business and communication platforms is essential.
  6. Superb organizational skills in the form of time management, self-driven work ethic, and internal and external communication procedures.
  7. Capable of confidently addressing clients, peers, and superiors in digital and physical environments to cultivate a sense of trust in Starfish’s procedures and professionals.
  8. Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of maintaining positive relationships with diverse clients including law enforcement and refugee camp residents.
  9. Fluency in English is essential.
  10. Language ability in Farsi, Arabic, French, or Greek is highly desirable.
  11. Driver’s license preferred. (International Driver’s license where applicable)

  3. Contract Length: minimum one month. Long term volunteers preferred.
  4. Compensation: This position is Pro Bono and purely voluntary, with intrinsic compensation provided through top-notch professional development and the knowledge of participation in the mission of protecting human life and creating long-lasting impact.
